Joe Hoefer is the Chief Investment Officer at Octavia Wealth Advisors, where he leads the firm’s investment strategy and governance. He oversees portfolio construction, asset allocation, risk management, manager due diligence, and investment committee governance. Joe partners closely with advisors and cross-functional teams to help keep Octavia’s investment process disciplined, scalable, and aligned with client objectives.
Joe brings an institutional approach to investment governance, supporting clients through a transparent, research-driven process grounded in thoughtful risk management. His work helps ensure portfolios are intentionally constructed, rigorously monitored, and clearly communicated, empowering clients to make confident long-term decisions.
Prior to joining Octavia, Joe founded GRIP Consulting, where he built a consulting practice focused on investment management solutions and knowledge sharing. Previously, he served as Managing Director at Barings and held senior investment roles at Wells Fargo, Evergreen Investments, and Wachovia Capital Markets. Earlier in his career, he developed and led a macroeconomic research function that was later launched as a formal Investment Institute, creating a lasting framework for investment insight and decision-making.
Joe holds an MBA in Finance and International Business from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from St. John Fisher University. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) and Chartered Market Technician® (CMT®).
On the personal side
Joe enjoys spending time with his spouse, children, and friends. Outside of work, his interests include fitness, reading, and sports. He also serves on the Board of Directors of The Deep Well Project, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering community connection, independence, and self-sufficiency.
